5 Fun and Inexpensive Day Trip Ideas for Families

Family on a mountain

A small trip in nature is the best way to spend more time with your loved ones. The ideal destination would be a place with a clean air where the whole family can have a lot of fun!

The room to describe different destinations is small, since there are so many wonderful places you can visit. I recommend you to find a place for yourself, get away from the city hustle and bustle. Stop for a moment right there and take a deep breath. Listen to the sounds of nature and enjoy with those you love. Let these small trips become your new ritual.

Remember that it doesn’t have to cost you a lot to have a good fun. For that purpose, I compiled a list of fun and inexpensive day trip ideas for you and your family. Enjoy it!

1. Go camping or hiking

Hiking or camping is the perfect way to forget about the busy life thanks to the lush greenery that will isolate you from the sounds of the city. The idea of going on camping or hiking will trill the whole family and they will be excited to prepare all the necessary foods, drinks and equipment. It is a great way to include the whole family in the planning and preparation process. The fact that we all have a possibility to enjoy the beauties of nature at least once a week, but we never do that, definitely means that there is something wrong with our way of living.

Every person who lives in the city must spend their free time in nature. Weekends should become a synonym for packing fresh food and taking a family trip in nature, instead of watching television all day and sleeping until noon. That is not a fun way to spend your free time.

2. Go to the beach

It might seem like the easiest thing to do, but small beach trips are a great fun for the whole family, and the biggest plus is that it is a cheap option. The sun and the sand will definitely help you relax and forget about stress, at least for a day and you can benefit a lot from the salty sea water.

Yes, there are places that can be very expensive, but instead of going to Miami, consider going to Oregon or Washington’s coastline, for example. It should be noted that less frequent beaches offer lower – cost foods and drinks and that way you can avoid the pricey traps while still having the same experience.

3. Visit a farm or a ranch

You never thought of this before, or did you? Just think about the happiness on your children’s faces when they see farm animals and get to play with them. It is priceless, since we all know how much children love animals. Other than being a fun activity, visiting a farm would help your children learn more about taking care of animals.

There is even a possibility to offer yourself to work on a ranch for the weekend and spend a night sleeping in a cozy cabin eating delicious home – made meals. But if you only want to be an observer, note that ranch and farm day trips are always cheap options. There are ranches that offer accommodation, fishing, horseback riding and even swimming.

4. Visit a botanical garden

Botanical gardens are a hidden place that have hundreds of different plants for visitors to see, such as exotic flowers, unique trees, leafy plants… These places are an oasis of peace, always coloured, full of nice details and with small places to relax, read or have a picnic on the grass with your family.

5. Visit your parents

This is a perfect day trip for those of you who do not really enjoy spending their free time in nature. Some people are simply unable to stay in the nature for a longer period of time due to allergies or some other health condition. But for the others, there is no excuse why you shouldn’t spend your free time enjoying the beauties of nature. Visiting the grandparents is such a joyful experience for both the kids and the grandparents. Make the next trip about grandparents. Let them take care of you and your family for a day, that is what they love the most.

Saving money should not be the main reason you visit your parents, but you will definitely have a great time and it won’t cost you anything. When was the last time you ate your mom’s or grandma’s cookies? Well, nothing can compare to them. And the best thing is that you do not have to make any plans. Simply pack your things and show up. It will be even better if you show up unannounced. So, go see them and eat their delicious food.

Finally, whether you decide to take a road trip somewhere in the world or simply head to the beach, spending time with family members is important. Find a time and place to spend quality time with your loved ones and enjoy valuable moments with them before it’s too late.
